What happened in Turkish football today? 03/04/2023

Besiktas got historical comeback against Fenerbahce.

Besiktas has shown strong fighting spirit with getting memorable comeback during derby game against Fenerbahce as it won with 4:2 scoreline while losing with 1:0 scoreline with goals coming with one less men.

It needs to be mentioned that Besiktas didnt provide very strong and confident performance during 1st half with letting opponent to control game and tempo of the game but introduction of Nathan Redmond in start of 2nd half and also motivational boost it got from red card from Wellinton and Enner Valencia not converting 2nd penalty has showed incredible comeback with Cenk Tosun scoring 2 goals and Nathan Redmon assisting 3 goals and scoring 1 making him without doubt player of the game. Only negative point for Besiktas from game has been injury news from Tayyip Talha Sanuc who will not play for 6 months.

Besiktas with such win is being inside once again title race with being 11 points behind leaders but its main aim now is being to get runners-up spot.

Fenerbahce last 40 minutes of the game were humiliating.

If Besiktas comeback could be seen as historical comeback with how game has been played, then for Fenerbahce such development of the game could be referred as humiliating as it was entirely switched off after Valencia not converting 2nd penalty.

Argument from Fenerbahce, that it has lost concentration after penalty kick could not be accepted for team which are fighting for title race and also were winning during game and got an extra men. Without doubt, if Fenerbahce did score that goal it would likely ended game but even missing it has kept into advantage position of the team. As Besiktas did score, Fenerbahce continue to conceding and didnt show much reaction to the game. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce continues losing all its games against big 4 clubs and only game left against them would be last week game against Galatasaray at away. Even through it does look to be tough right now, there is chance for Fenerbahce to come out to the title game but how it can get that outcome with such performance against top 4 sides is big question.

Things were going well until Enner Valencia 2nd penalty, but such loss of concentration and giving key to the game at Besiktas with 1 less men is not acceptable for team in such calibre.

Trabzonspor will put Turkish Cup as higher priority then Ankaragucu

Turkish Cup quarter-finals game is going to be started with Trabzonspor and Ankaragucu game, as Trabzonspor would be aiming to show good performance in the Turkish Cup after losing chance for title and more or less to top 4.

With Ankaragucu still not securing its position for next season in the league and having tough weeks coming up, it would be expected for them to give more priority to league while Trabzonspor only aim has been left is Turkish Cup. Hence, it could be expected for Trabzonspor to be more concentrated and motivated to game, as in normal circumstances it would coming to game as favourites. Stating that Ankaragucu would likely still give some high concentration to this game in sense of getting win against top 4 opponent and also get possibly one step closer to the final of the competition.

Trabzonspor would be coming out as favourite when looking into situation of teams at the league but Ankaragucu would give for sure some resistance.
