What happened in Turkish football today? 14/09/2023

Sacking national team coaches hasnt been solution and will not be now.

There has been pretty active talks at the Turkish National Team front about sacking its head coach Stefan Kuntz due of recent poor results but as history shows that doesnt seem an issue and it does have more deeper issues.

Sadly and especially at Turkish sports media we are seeing same rotational issue at its coverage which is calling to sack head coach when poor results are coming, praising new coach when he is being appointed, looking positive with good results coming and when bad do come calling for him to be sacking. There are even cases that coach which been called to be sacked immediately would be called in just few months referring to him as best candidate for job. If we see similar things happening at national team whoever coach is does raise that maybe an issue is somewhere else and it is. Turkey does need to work into improving its football faciliites and found ways how to make sure Turkish players get lots of playing time as many join national side unprepared.

Most easiest thing to do when bad results come is to sack head coach but history does show that this is not solution even at short-term period.

Gokhan Inler would start sports director role at Besiktas this season despite being referred as player.

Besiktas has appointed Gokhan Inler as club's sports director but it does have an interesting contract as he would be seen as a player for first season.

It has been announced as that he would be player at the team during this season and afterwards would starts sports director role but it needs to be mentioned that in fact he would be sports director in this season too but would not be given too much time and it would be more or less for him to get used and learn about such position as it is not also expected for him to get much playing time on field.

Therefore, Gokhan Inler would be seen as in role of player this role but actually would be going through to some extend work placement for sports director.

Fatih Karagumruk signs Nazim Sangare for 1-year

Fatih Karagumruk has signed Nazim Sangare for 1-season after player has ended contract with Fenerbahce as Istanbul giant doesnt have much plans for player in upcoming season and it would been good for him.

It needs to be mentioned that Nazim Sangare did show to be a good player with lots of good defensive game but it needs to be aware that he is not in level of Fenerbahce in this season and it would been better for him to join mediocre side in the league where he would be able to get some playing time and play an important role for success of this club. Fatih Karagumruk which is being side with high aims would be seen hence a good option for him.

Hence, this transfer has been a good development for all parties as Fatih Karagumruk did sign player which would strength they defence in upcoming season.

What happened in Turkish football today? 13/09/2023

Turkey needs to show organising game rather than emotional.

Turkish National Team has provided pretty dissapointing performance against Japanese National Team as it did lose to them with 4:2 scoreline during friendly game and has provided some worrying views as it did lose to Armenia.

It also needs to be stated that this game needs to be looked next to game against Armenia as it is being national character that Turkey is being team of emotions which leads to either back-to-back good performance and vice versa, this time we seeing poor game against Japan. It also needs to be mentioned and to some extend this connected to previous note is that Turkey has been lacking organising game for long time which is being present at Japan which knew what they were playing and how to achieve that and this organisation has led team to show domination of Turkey while Turkish side did improve performance with some substitutes in 2nd half and still it wasnt well-enough. Turkey hence did look pretty poor and been far from June performance which it has shown.

As readers noticed, issues which are been discussed above has been long-term and has always been present for long time even back when it had golden years. So maybe root of problem is not on head coach.

Besiktas extends contract with Gedson Fernandes until 2027

Besiktas has extended contract with its player Gedson Fernandes until 2027 as player did show a strong performance during previous season and has become one of the key players during this season so far.

One of the players which Senol Gunes always starts at starting 11 without doubt has been Gedson Fernandes as he did show organising and strong performance on field all the time being a key attacking striker at midfielder so it should be seen quite natural for this extension as it is also known that player is being happy and comfortable in Turkish side. It would be also expected for Fernandes playing a key role in the team at the season which it does high aims.

Gedson Fernandes hence is being an extension for Besiktas and would continue playing important role for sure at team.

Gaziantep signs Denis Dragos

Gaziantep has signed Standard Liege player Denis Dragos until end of the season as he would be providing an important strength to the team especially as team is looking to restart its season after national team break.

Without doubt, Gaziantep did need some important factors to be changed and with appointing Cagdas Atan as club's head coach it also made an important transfer as Dragos does come from pretty strong side and does have an important potential and would only need some time to get adapted. This addition would play an important role as he would raise level of performance on the field for sure.

Gaziantep are going some changes during this national team break and it would be interesting to see how that affects into its performance when season restarts.

Turkey provided very poor defensive game against Japan.

Turkish National Team has lost an international friendly game against Japan in Belgium with 4:2 scoreline as it provided pretty poor performance especially during 1st half and showed some serious issues at collective defensive game.

It needs to be stated that Turkey in fact didnt show anything during 1st half as game has been played in total control of the Japan as it did found 3 pretty easy goals as we saw some serious decline performance. It could be argued that Turkey didnt play with an ideal starting 11 during 1st half and things did change in 2nd half when with substitutes it became closer to ideal starting 11, but this also shows that Turkey substitutes are not being at high level. In same matter as during game against Armenia one of the few positive aspects from this game could be a goal which been come from Bertug Yildirim as he made 2 out of 2 but unlucky for him it did come at the game where side did lose games. Turkey hence needs to take lots of lessons from this games.

Japan did show once again that it is being strong and effective team as it looked much more confident and that taking account that it did come out very far from ideal starting 11 changing 10 players. It looked more organised and dangerous at front with using weaknesses of Turkish defence whole game.

Turkey did get very poor result hence against Japan and does provide some serious drop of performance which would mean that Kuntz would need to find solutions for next Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Trabzonspor signs Ognjek Bakic for 2+2 years.

Trabzonspor has signed Osijek player Ognijek Bakic for 2+2 years as it was transfer which been directly asked from Nenad Bjelica as Bakic is being an young player with lots of potential without doubt.

It would need to be mentioned that Bakic does have lots of potential as player and since coming from same country as Bjelica would mean without doubt that it would be given entirely into trust of coaches as it is clear he has been viewing him for some time. It needs to be mentioned that 1st two years would be given pretty modest salary to Bakic but as time would go it would raise if he would use +2 extension and prove himself to the team.

Not much is known about Bakic but it is clear that he is being player with full potential but he needs to show his quality both in training and games without doubt.

Basaksehirspor has extended contract with Berkay Ozcan for 4-years.

Basaksehirspor has extended contract with its player Berkan Ozcan for 4 years as he has been one of the key players in the team in recent years and hence club did show strong trust towards him.

It needs to be mentioned that Ozcan has been one of the players at the team who does recieve lots of playing times and has shown his quality and key role at the team so it should not be surprised that contract has been extended for pretty long time and team didnt have any plans to sell him during this summer transfer window. Berkay Ozcan has been player which did show stable performance in the team and for sure would be continuing such high level performance in upcoming 4 years.

Ozcan has made his name to be associated with Basaksehirspor and hence this extension should be seen as pretty expected development.

What happened in Turkish football today? 11/09/2023

Turkey will have good testing game against Japan in friendly.

Turkish National Team would be coming out to friendly game against Japanese National Team in Brussels as it would be aiming to regain confidence after unexpected loss of 2 points to Armenia but it would be tough game.

Japan without doubt has been side which has shown lots of improvement in recent years showing strong and successful performance at World Cup coming out from group stages and also improving as side. It also needs to be reminded that it got pretty historical win against Germany with 3:1 scoreline even if it was friendly game and hence would be coming to Turkey with high confidence motivation. Therefore, this game to some extend would be also an important test to Turkey to check its current condition and also aim to identify its issues which has also been present against Armenia.

Hence, regardless, what would be result of the game this game could be a good opportunity to check current condition of the team on the field for sure, as Japan would aim to show top performance.

TFF will go through format changes as it started survey towards supporters.

TFF has announced that it is planning to change format of the Super League and has run a test towards referees asking what kind of changes they would be like to have including kick-off time, number of teams in the league and how much would be relegated.

There has been lots of conversations recently about what kind of changes should be made to Super League to make it more exciting and raise its quality as many games at the league especially between mediocre are being played at mediocre level which without doubt has negative impact into quality aspect. With going through such changes this could lead into change of format in the near future.

Here, the comments which would be done by supporters would surely play an important role and hence such importance of this survey.

Trabzonspor loans Paul Onuachu for 1-year

Trabzonspor has loaned Southampton player Paul Onuachu for 1,500,000 euro for 1-year and would also pay part of his salary as it is expected for player to have an important impact to team this season.

Paul Onuachu is being 2.01 tall player which would be giving strong advantage especially at crosses during this season and in recent years tall players did provide good performance in sense of scoring goal so his impact very likely would be pretty significant in upcoming season. He didnt play a good performance at Southampton in recent years which led for side to be loaned on first place, but he has lots of potential as player and if he manages to show good performance he would become clear player to side.

Hence, it does look Trabzonspor did get an important transfer who would provide some good performance in upcoming season.

Trabzonspor has signed Nicolas Pepe for 1-year.

Trabzonspor has announced that it has signed Nicolas Pepe until end of the season for 1,750,000 euro until end of the season as it did get an important player at its disposal and is expected to have lots of positive impact into overall performance of the team.

It needs to be mentioned that Pepe did have decline of performance in recent years especially during his stay at Arsenal but it needs to be remembered that he has lots of potential which he did show in recent years and as long he does get adapted fast to Trabzonspor and league it would be expected for him to raise into performance level and become an important player. This week through he would need to work hard during training session to be available for Besiktas game in good condition in the league.

Trabzonspor hence did get an important player at its disposal and hence would be able to show some good performance in upcoming weeks.

Stefan Kuntz should not get all blame.

There has been lots of criticism towards Stefan Kuntz which been building up from start of this Euro 2024 campaign and has been raised even more following draw against Armenia.

As been noted on our early blog entries it is without doubt unacceptable results to almost lose to Armenia as Bertug Yildirim late goal didnt save draw, but it would be still too harsh to say that Turkey as it been unlucky in many chances and has been side to control game. It also needs to be mentioned that Turkish sports media didnt been very good relationship with Stefan Kuntz for long time, calling for resignation for some time now even through stats are not too bad and despite this draw Turkey still has some good chances to get to Euro 2024 even through it cant afford to lose points much. As been in some blog entries here it also needs to be mentioned that results doesnt change much with changes of coaches, so maybe solution should be somewhere else like to youth facilities.

Stefan Kuntz is not possibly getting best result from Turkish National Team but throwing all blames towards him might be also wrong.

2 Qatari clubs are interested to sign Dries Mertens

It has become clear that 2 Qatari clubs are showing an interest to sign Galatasaray player Dries Mertens and could be sending transfer offers and it would be interesting to see how club would react.

Among signing some new names during this transfer window, Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk aim has been to keep players from previous season in tact and he has managed to do so and hence it would not be expected for him to want for Mertens to be sold but as it is known Arabic clubs tend to provide a high transfer offers, with Qatar being one of them, so if this two clubs would send high offers it would be interesting to see how both player and Galatasaray adminsitrators would respond.

Therefore, there could be some actions regarding Mertens future and as always our accounts would follow all developments.

Turkey got unexpected draw from Armenia

Turkish National Team has got unexpected loss to the Armenia during Euro 2024 qualification at the game which it was aiming to get win and hence make an important step to knockout stages but still thanks to Bertug Yildirim scoring goal on debut goal possibly did get valuable point.

Even through this blog does admit that losing 2 points against Armenia is being unexpectable outcome, it would be too harsh to state that team didnt provide very good performance as it did dominate game for most amount of the game but did lack to find that goal on 1st half due of possibly lacking some players in attack and also condition of the field. Still, it needs to be stated that conceded goal did come when side did lack concentration which should provide lessons to its players that it would need to stay focussed for 90 minutes regardless who is opponent. Still, Turkey needs to work on why it didnt convert chances which it got and clearly identify which this draw did come to place as it almost lost game even.

Turkey are still leaders in the group but it did push away golden opportunity to make their position much more stronger for 2nd spot.

Fenerbahce administrators approved plan to change stadium name to Ataturk Stadium.

Fenerbahce adminsitrator has voted for changing its home ground to Ataturk stadium as Turkey is celebrating this year 100th anniversary of Turkish Republic and according to rules would send this request to government which would approve such decision.

Even through it is known that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk wasnt interested into football, Fenerbahce does provide some special connection with Ataturk as he did visit team facilities and left message where he send strong good wishes to the team and also Fenerbahce for long time did show themselves to be side which are going following steps of Turkish founder and creator. Therefore, it should not be surprising that Fenerbahce has been that much willing to change its name as during today's voting in administrative meeting it was approved for name changes.

As been noted, now this decision would be going to government where it would provide its own approval according to guidelines which Turkey is going through.

Basaksehirspor has appointed Cagdas Atan.

Basaksehirspor has been announced that it has made an aggreement with Cagdas Atan to become club head coach after he has been resigned from Kayserispor.

it was reported for some time that Basaksehirspor were having direct negotiations and almost has made agreement and Istanbul side has made statement this was case.Without doubt, Atan did leave Kayserispor due of strong interest from Basaksehirspor who has terminated contract with Emre Belozoglu as Cagdas Atan did have some good result on his previous club. It needs to be mentioned that Atan performance as coach has been rising in recent seasons and taking account of capacities where he was coaching he was able to get maximum from them and hence could be getting some good results at team which has high aims.

Hence, Cagdas Atan did make an important leap forward in his coaching career and he has all reasons to be successful at Basaksehirspor.

Turkish National Team has unexpectedly lost 2 points to Armenia

Turkish National Team has got unexpected draw against Armenia despite of providing strong and attacking game but it did have an issue with converting goal and it did concede goal right in the start of 2nd half which provided some panicking game for rest of the game.

When looking at the performance of Turkish National Team it needs to be stated that team did come into win and has aimed to provide an attacking and positive game as it did create lots of chances and has shown some willingness and therefore blaming Turkey not wanting to win game could be too harsh. In all fairness, opposition defence and goalkeeper did have good night with getting some important saves but stating that same goalkeeper did play anti-football as he did enter ball too late. One of the other positive aspect of the game is has been positive performance from Bertug Yildirim who has scored his debut goal and this goal on long run might be enough for side to go to the Euro 2024 as 1 point could be enough. Therefore in overall Turkey didnt provide necessarily poor performance but it could have shown much more organised performance.

Armenia on their part did aim to provide an organised performance especially at defence and has managed to do that as it provided good defence even if Turkey did create some good chances and has used its opportunity in the start of 2nd half and this draw has kept side chances for Euro 2024 alive.

Turkey did lose its opportunity to become into much more comfortable position at the group stage and did concede goal in bad timing. Still gaining 1 point could become possibly very important in future.

Trabzonspor signs Nicolas Pepe.

Trabzonspor signs Arsenal player Nicolas Pepe after intensive but in same time fast transfer negotiations and hence making another transfer from other club as Besiktas did lose uanother player to its rivals this summer.

With Besiktas having long time transfer negotiations with Pepe and being close in some moments to sign him, Trabzonspor did mention to sign him at short notice as reports that club is interested with him did come 2 days ago. Even through Besiktas did have some good transfers during this summer in overall it didnt do well with convincing most players and it would need to go through why this has taken place. Meanwhile, it needs to be Trabzonspor did got job as it did good player for Super League which would help to achieve targets which it has set.

Trabzonspor hence did sign a good player and did act more faster and actively compare to Besiktas if we see how this transfer negotiations developed.

Fatih Karagumruk signs Guven Yalcin

Fatih Karagumruk sings Genoa player Guven Yalcin who did leave several years ago to Italian side from Besiktas to recieve more playing time but it didnt turn around as he has planned and he has returned to home country.

It needs to be mentioned back when he did travel to Italy there were talks that it could been too early move and as even through we would praise his actions for trying into new area, it does look all this talks  has been right and now he would return to Fatih Karagumruk where at first he would be aiming to get into  his top level he showed at Besiktas and when he does he could easily become good transfer to Fatih Karagumruk and hence could become key player in the team.

Hence, Fatih Karagumruk did sign an important player who would be able to take leading role in upcoming season.
