What happened in Turkish football today? 18/11/2020

 

Turkish National Team been relegated to League C when it got chance to get promoted

Turkish National Team did come out for Hungary game in its final game with aim to get top spot during last week game at League B game but ended being relegated to lower league hence once again showing decline of its game.

Turkish National Team continues to providing unstable performance as it even got great opportunity to end group stage at the top and being relegated to elite league as Russia was losing to Serbia during whole game with Turkey needing win but certainly it didnt do anything to get that win for sure. Since start of this campaign at Nations League, Turkey has treated this tournament as friendlies while its opponents, including Russia who lost today, saw it as important tournament which without doubt did lead for side to only win 1 game which did come out from help of referee. Turkey did provide similar performance in this game, and when it did play which was taking game much seriously playing for win even when draw would been enough did provide such result. Team which didnt lose to France during Euro2020 qualifiers with being relegated to 3rd division at the tournament which has 4 is just unexpectable and does show how unserious and unstable Turkey continues to be.

In other hand, as been noted Hungary wanted to win this game and provided patient performance for 90 minutes and being side which had control of the game. In fact, as it was expected that they would be get into defence since draw would be enough for them, they provided much more attacking game towards end, attitude which should be given by Turkey.

Turkey provided very poor performance in Nations League and in all fairness should not use Covid19 card since everyone has been in same conditions for sure.

Single laboratory would reduce feeling of unfairness with tests.

As it does look, unfortunately, that whole Europe including Turkey would be having difficult winter due of Covid19, conversation regarding of having single laboratory for PCR tests has been discussed actively.

With active conversation regarding of forfeiting Super League since January due of intense scheduling of season, has been seen in negative manner as would be expected from all clubs, but in same time provided statement that it could be accepted by them if tests would be done in same laboratory. Decision of this for possibility that club would be hiding test results to come out to the game and also different results coming from different test. Even through, laboratory which would be provided by Health Ministry likely will not be 100% reliable it would be able to come from all clubs and hence provide trustfullness among it being open result with all clubs having access. Therefore, it would be important for single laboratory to exclude possibe issues which could rise in future.

This is being unusual season which likely would have some factors of Covid19 affecting its normality and its important to provide some trustfullness to everyone involved.

Sports and Youth Ministry is currently running TFF

With Turkish Sports and Youth Ministry being one who announced agreement with TFF and BeinSports regarding broadcasting rights of Super League, raises once again argument who actually runs TFF.

Since introduction of Covid19 during this season which includes: postponement of previous season, supporters issue, and this time contract with broadcaster which economically rooted to issues raised from Covid19, it does look that especially at least Covid19 final decision is been made from ministry. Until now, TFF CEO Nihat Ozdemir has used such comment as: we want league to continue(previous season), we want 30% of supporters capacity, we want other things but final word been decided from above. Here it is important to note, in such important issue which needs to be admited threathens nation security in sense of health, it would expected and should be for Sports and Youth Ministry, Health Ministry and Covid19 Science Committee to make decisions with TFF approving them. Issue is not that, but for Ozdemir keep making his wishes, sometimes even making it sound like final decision, but in few days or even hours Sports and Youth Minister announced totally opposite decision.

It does look like now decision about forfeiting games and single Covid19  PCR test results laboratory would also come from those sources. Again, its normal for them to make those decisions but from outside Ozdemir looks like someone who cant make those strong decisions with strong suggestions.

What happened in Turkish football today? 17/11/2020

Turkey still has possibility to get to League A.

Turkish National Team are going to play its Nations League 2nd league 3rd group game against Hungary with possibility of getting promotion to highest league if it manages to beat opponent and Serbia helps them.

With 4 sides being on the group, all 3 have opportunity to end group stage in the top of the league and get promoted to elite league, with Turkey being underdog among those 3 sides as Russia has 9 points, Hungary 8 and Turkey 6 points with having advantage with Russia from head-to-head, thanks to 3:1 win against them on 15th November. With winner of this fixture making step closer, it would be also important for Serbia to lose game. However, Serbs do come out to game with 3 points and is fighting to stay in the league. Therefore, with Turkey winning game would reduce motivation of Serbia while playing against highly motivated Russia. Therefore, opportunity for Turkey to end group at top are low but still exist and it would be crucial for them to play with belief they would get top spot for 90 minutes.

This game would at least decide team which would end group at 2nd even at least and this would provide motivation to both sides for sure.

3 more players at Galatasaray got positive test results.

Spreading of Covid19 is still taking place in high speed, as it also does in whole Turkey, as 3 more positive test resutls has come from Galatasaray making totally tally to 5.

One of the players who has announced himself, has been Arda Turan which from his actions and behaviour did show that he is highly aware of this virus and tries to take precautions but even this being case it is clear it could not be enogh. Our blog states that this virus can hit anyone, but its on hands on people to reduce possibility of getting some. With having 5 players with virus for Galatasaray also will not be good news for them as there were aiming to provide good performance following national team break and some of this players are reported to be regulars.

Internal ministry not expected to allow Galatasaray CEO election

With number of cases rising up and new limitations been announced today for fight against Covid19 in community, it does look like Galatasaray CEO election would be cancelled with such circumstances.

In fact, number of Galatasaray administrative members and football pundits believe that Galatasaray that Mustafa Cengiz did announce this CEO election on purpose being aware that it would not be taking place giving image that he tries to show that he does provide some action of high level criticism. In fact, even through 3 CEO candidates to work on like there would be taking place, high amount of members, rightfully, expecting for election not to be allowed not providing any action. Therefore, it would be interesting to see how this story would be developing and what would be action of Cengiz if election would be cancelled.

With current condition in country with number of cases and deaths it is unlikely Internal Ministry would allow CEO election to take place.

Referee helped Turkey without doubt against Russia.

Turkish National Team has won its 1st win during this campaign of Nations League with 3:2 scoreline against Russia and thanks to Serbia has got opportunity to get 1st spot and rise to League A.

Without doubt, main role of this outcome even through Turkey did look to be aiming to win game, has been referee of the game which did provide some questionable red card and penalty decision, as surprisingly some Turkish experts did state that this were wrong decisions while Russian media is being furious with referee. Most important from Turkey stance, is that it did provide pretty ineffective game before red card which does raise questions if Turkey would win game with 11-on-11. In our view, Turkey would improve its way of game as game would be developing but it would been difficult to win game to all respect. Without doubt providing strong defensive game with 3:2 scoreline, with opponent having 1 less men would also be unexpectable with being too much stress psychological which needs to be solved. Turkey sadly would have lost or draw against League A opponent if game been played in same scenario. This area which they need to improve on for crucial Hungary game.

Opportunity to get top spot in all fairness would be difficult as Russia would need to rose to Serbia which is all fairness is difficult scenario but it should believe on this task.

4 Turkish players been taken away from squad.

Prior to very important game against Hungary which win could bring 1st spot in the group and hence promotion to League A if things would go as planned, number of key players in the team has been taken from squad due of injury.

With Zeki Celik being injured during game against Russia, other players which been taken away are Cengiz Under, Eren and Caglar Soyuncu who even through didnt recieves any or much playing time are important players whose absence could be felt for some time during Hungary especially when opponent would be coming with strong motivation. One of the most discussed issue right now in the Turkish football community is should games to be forfeited if one side has got 14+ positive cases among players from January rather then postponing game.

One of the most discussed topics is that this decision would be unfair towards clubs as it is being issue without their control, argument which this blog also supported from beginning however due of premature decision from TFF to raise number of clubs from 18 to 21 which led to extra 8 weeks in season, means that 2nd half of season would be played in intense schedule and hence there is no dates to put fixtures on which by itself is providing this issue. Therefore, it does look like there is not much alternatives for this sadly, however suggestion to have one single laboratory for clubs would be effective decision which even through might raise questions into reliance of tests, would at least come from same source.

This decision is currently in discussion but it does look like forfeit decision would be kept due of scheduling issues in upcoming weeks.

What happened in Turkish football today? 15/11/2020

 Red card of Russia has direct impact for whole game.

Turkish National Team has won its 1st game during 2020 and also against Russia since opponnets got indepedence on 1991 following USSR breakup with providing strong performance following red card of opponent on 24th minute.

Without doubt, red card of Semenov did been turning point as Russia been side which had better start with controlling ball much stronger and finding goal during that period with Turkey did have issue to enter to the game both physically and mentally. However, following red card of Semenov things did change directly with providing much more agressive and tempo game which led for them with to find 2 goals back-to-back with controlling ball. It needs to be stated that during that period and most of 2nd half side did provide pretty strong game but it needs to be reminded that opponent been played with one less men and it still unclear how it would be performing with 11-to-11 as during that period Russia been better side. Another point, is that Turkey did again get into defensive game towards end of the game when scoreline with 3:2 which tends to be psychological issue which needs to be solved and should be focussed by coach Senol Gunes.

Without doubt, red card which been got by Russia did affect negatively and also conceding 2 goals after it lost high concentration and even through it did try to get back after 3:2 scoreline, it didnt have strength to do so with one less player.

Turkey got its 1st win with good game even through it did come from red card of opponent but the way it ended game does show that it needs to work to improve its game with ending game much more confidence.

Genclerbirligi has appointed Mustafa Kaplan.

Genclerbirligi has appointed Mustafa Kaplan as club's head coach after spending his years of his coaching career with Ankara as he replaces Mert Nobre who been sacked earlier this week.

As been noted, Mustafa Kaplan has spend his recent years with either Genclebrirligi and Ankaragucu getting mixed results with most of the time did have issues with getting good results with limited players in his hand. However, Kaplan does have advantage of knowing footballing culture in Ankara, as community there even through is dissapointed for being only European nation where team from capital city didnt get domestic title, does have aims to end season  at high note. It could be noted that Genclerbirligi does have good squad and hence is able to provide good performance and be higher in the standings but having inexperienced coach did provide some unwanted result so Kaplan could feel that gap from Nobre.

Therefore, Kaplan does have all reasons to get good results with this side if he gets some patience and support from administrators also.

Gaziantep Covid19 cases been raised to 3 among players.

Gaziantep has announced that 2 players and 2 personnel has got positive test results following Covid19 tests hence raising total tally of players to 3 in the club.

With Covid19 both actively spreading in rest of the world, Turkey and at football clubs in most active manner, Gaziantep is being also affected from it with its cases been raised to 3 with players not also returning from national duty which could also raise number of cases. It would be hoping to see for those players and personnel hopefully would have fast recovery without any negative circumstances.

What happened in Turkish football today? 14/11/2020

 

Turkey would aim for great game for 90 minutes.

Turkish National Team is going to resume its Nations League as it would be coming out to its last 2 games, starting with Russia against who it would be aiming to provide high level performance for 90 minutes with obviously aiming for win.

During last month game Turkey did quite pretty poor game during 1st half and strong game in 2nd half while Russia on they part did quite opposite and for now both sides would be aiming to spread this performance to 2 halves. One of the main issues for Turkey since post-lockdown period has been for conceding goals in each single game, showing quite opposite of what it been doing well during Euro2020 qualifier so therefore it would be one of the aims not to concede even through it needs to be remembered that Russia does provide good attacking game but with Dzyuba not being in squad there is opportunty for clean sheet. Therefore, it would be crucial for Turkey to focus into game and provide good tempo for 90 minutes.

Turkey does have small opportunity to end group stage at 1st spot but it would need to win game without doubt prior to Hungary game.

Clubs and players need to take Covid precautins even more now.

With Covid19 patients and hence more likely number of cases, which are not announced, surely rising rapidly we are seeing high number of positive cases among Turkish clubs having most amount of positive test results at any time in Super League with 34 cases.

Most affected team is being Besiktas with 8 players which does show that players are not taking enough seriousness in its prevention factors both in facilities and more probably in private life which could be due for players either not being too precautious or being too much relaxed. This  blog did state that clubs need to be taking extra precautions in this period if their dont want to have some issues in future, especially when talks of games to be forfeited being discussed. Logic anyone would get sick one day from Covid and we should live normal life, without getting too much into medical and health circumstances, this stance certainly would have negative impact for players, clubs and whole season. Therefore, football clubs as whole need to focus into reducing possibility of getting virus into minumum for sure.

Therefore, its crucial here to act accordingly in such period with Covid19 being in pretty active period for sure.

Christian Luyindama became injured at national duty.

Galatasaray player Christian Luyindama has become injured during his national duty with Congo and even through his condition is not being known, it is bad enough for him not to play African Cup of Nations.

With Luyindama being for sure key player at defence and possibility strongest player on that area, it would be affected a lot if it would be serious injury as his previous one has been also from national duty which led him to be injured for half year. Most dissapointed would been for injury to come from training session which possibly could be done for most pressure to his body, which could raise questions of how Galatasaray does training sessions. 

Time would show if his injury is serious or not but it would be reasonable for Galatasaray head coach to focus into how his possible absence could be filled for upcoming games.

Forfeiting "Covid" games is harsh decision, but there is no other alternative.

It became clear that TFF are considering to forfeit Super League games, in similar manner as Turkish Cup, if number of positive Covid19 cases would be in number of available players at team to be less to 14, due of active schedule following New Year.

With TFF raising number of clubs in this Covid-season, has led for number of games naturally rise with mid-week games to be played mostly in 2021 however with number of games to be postponed due of Covid19 being possibly to be happening as number of cases across clubs rising and 2 games arleady been postponed, rises questions for games not be able to schedule. Therefore, one of the option is to provide pretty harsh decision to forfeit game with 3:0 scoreline for side which didnt come to game due of virus. Without doubt, this decision is being pretty harsh and as writer I am being against it despite of it been practicised in some leagues across Europe as it is punishing for something which clubs didnt do wrong( only due of them not being careful, but against as flu it could be spread even when precautions taken). This issue would be discussed within clubs, and likely to be against but problem here is that it would have problem to find alternative in such circumstances.

TFF made mistake in beginning for rising number of clubs 18-21 believing that virus would be more in control, but we seeing that more clubs are being effected for them compare to spring.

Total of 8 players got Covid 19 at Besiktas. 

Besiktas continues to be club which looks to be highly affected in this period of Covid19, with 5 more players getting positive tests with making totally number as 8, hence only having in dispose 16 players right now.

With arleady having 5 cases earlier this week, it became clear that 3 more players within team, 1 being out of squad has got positive test results with adding to this 2 players who are at national duty, with one of them being Domadoj Vida. In fact, this development does show that possibility of Vida joining Croatian team with arleady been infected but so to speak virus not being active from Besiktas. Even through there is still week until Trabzonspor game, this game is also being in danger if existent players, or part of them will not recover and 3 other players, hopefully not, will get positive results do. This does show importance of Besiktas to focus and try to do everything to prevent spread of virus within team.

Kasimpasa has appointed Irfan Buz as club's head coach.

Kasimpasa has appointed Irfan Buz as club's head coach after unexpected termination with Mehmet Buyukeksi as club is openning new chapter during this season.

As it is known, Buyukeksi has been fired not for his performance but due of misunderstanding which took place inside the club, which means Buz would be joining side which actually does show good performance for its capacity. Therefore, Buz would be judged in beginning if he would be able to show similar performance at least. Even through it doesnt seem to be issue as players would continue in similar manner, if things will not go as planned with drop of performance Buz could be felt some pressure within club. So rather then fixing things, he would need to focus into how to improve some areas which were missing. Still, Buz does have some good experience in this level and could get some good results with his club.

Therefore, Irfan Buz doesnt take side which is broken with performance and would need to focus to improve even more which he has potential.

What happened in Turkish football today? 12/11/2020

 Turkey currently has some defensive issues.

Turkey and Croatia did provide pretty classical friendly game against each other without supporters as even through 6 goals been scored at 3:3 draw, there were not other many opportunities as game been going through.

It needs to be noted that one of the discussed issues which been discussed that following Euro2020 qualifiers, where it has provided one of the best defence performance in whole qualifiers, it started conceding in every game following that which without doubt did play direct role with losing or drawing in 6  games during that period. Still, it needs to be praised that during game against Croatia even through it is difficult to state that it did get upper hand, it did manage mentally to be on the game regardless of result of the game and did gain some motivation for last 2 games at Nations League. But without doubt it would need to solve defensive issue in such short period, as it would win next 2 games to have some possibility to end group at top, if it would be lucky for sure.

Turkey hence does have some defense issue following Covid19 period and hence some concentration would be needed in upcoming 2 games for sure.

Domagoj Vida played for 45 minutes with having Covid19 against Turkey.

Meanwhile, there was shocking development during game when it became clear on half time that Croatian player Domagoj Vida has positive test result which became known in half-time after playing for 45 minutes and getting into touch with some Turkish players.

Good news is being that Turkey did go through Covid19 tests this morning and in some hours did recieve results which all turned out to be negative, but it needs to be stated that in such short period it is unlikely for result to be coming out in short period of time. Meanwhile, even through all tests for Croatia for this game did come out negative and hence legitimate to play during this game, it would be seen wrong decision to play while other tests results were expected to  come out which is kind being due of scheduling of this game. With test results start showing actual results within 5-6 days there is danger for those players more for Hungary game than Russian.

Meanwhile, there is possibility that Vida got Covid19 from Besiktas as 3 players are known to be having positive results in previous tests.

Kayserispor appoint Samet Aybaba

Kayserispor has officially announced one of the experienced Turkish head coaches as its new coach with aiming to raise from league and get much better results.

With being working on Super League and lower league he always been able to get some good outcome from his sides always getting maximum level from team he worked with. With taking account that despite of poor results, Kayserispor squad is pretty good for Super League level, i could be expected Samet Aybaba could be getting some good outcomes in upcoming weeks with having opportunity to study and to know better during this international team break. But as always with such task does have potentiality but needs time, Kayserispor as we keep saying every time needs to show patience which seems to be issue in this country.

Aybaba hence does have potentiality to turn around this side making it to get good results as long as side be patient towards him.
