What happened in Turkish football today? 23.06.2016

Turkish National Team wasnt ready for Euro2016 mentally.

Since Turkish National Team has managed to win Czech Republic at the last game of the Group D in the Euro2016 with 2:0 scoreline, there was raise of hope that things would go as their wanted and it will get help either from Macedonia or from Belgium (which it did) and Italy at the same time but it didnt work like that.

For about 24 hours, between Turkish win against Czech Republic and Irish player Brady goal against Italy things were looking a bit positive however it needs to be noted that there were serious issues at the Turkish National Team even if it qualify to next stage. It could be argued that Turkey should been at the last 16 according to last game, but in same time it was among worser teams at the tournament in game against Croatia and especially Spain. The team didnt show any willingness, motivation which was missing from games played before start of Euro2016 and prior to that in duration of a year. It is certain that there were some issues taking place at the national team and some of them might become clearer in upcoming days or even years, from Fatih Terim and some players memoirs if written. The team was certainly not ready for a tournament and this was especially case mentally rather than physically.

There were number of issues which affected to the team which was outside football, similar problem it can be identified during almost whole last season with Trabzonspor.  It is know time to find mistakes which were made to be identified by Fatih Terim and Turkish Football Federation and prepare for the World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

Galatasaray will not compete at Europa League next season for sure now.

As was expected, Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) didnt approve request from Galatasaray to lift their 1-year ban which was given by UEFA for not following FFP regulations. Galatasaray CEO Dursun Ozbek did state earlier that it could win this case but it was clear from beginning that it will not be case.

The issues of Galatasaray economically were not in good condition and it was known by everyone and only reason to start case through CAS was to show to UEFA, media and team supporters that it will not accept this ban and would fight for its rights, apart of that there were no other reasons. As been mentioned before, it is time for Galatasaray to go through its finances which is known to be doing right now by reducing number of player and be careful with salaries to players and whole staff. Meanwhile, with this decision it became clear that Osmanlispor would compete at the Europa League where it starts at 2nd qualifying round either against Moldavian team Zimbru Chisinau or Georgian Chikhura Sachktere. Of course, team aims is not only to pass 2nd qualifying round but move until group stages.

Osmanlispor has arleady start training session as it would play its 1st leg game on 14th July and is capable to pass this round without much problem but tough teams will come later especially at play-off stage.

Karabukspor is having Romanian project for next season.

Karabukspor, which will compete at the Super League after being promoted from 1st league, has mainly focussed into Romanian players and technical staff transfers and appointment in this summer. Team has arleady appointed Igor Tudor as head coach last weekend and has signed Astra Giurgiu player Marius Gaman for 3 years today.

This move is similar to the Galatasaray at the mid-90s during which period, with players Hagi, Popescu, Philepescu and others, it made half of the best players at the team with others being Turkish players. However, it needs to be stated that Romanian players are not in same level as their were back in 1990's. However, high number of them are from Romanian National Team squad which to some extend didnt provide too badly performance at Euro2016 if lookign at expected strength by them especially game against France. Plus Genclerbirligi player Bogdan Stancu and performance by Osmanlispor player Gabriel Torje has provided great football last season and surely those transfers would make Karabukspor stronger team possibly fighting at the mid-table.

Bringing Romanian players to Turkey has been used many times since mid-90's and with some of them being strong successes ofcourse their been failures. However, having Romanian head coach at Karabukspor could be good advantage to those players.

What happened in Turkish football today? 22.06.2016

Turkey was close but it their fault not to be in last 16.

As we were coming to the final games of the Euro 2016 group stage we were hoping that scorelines at the Group F and especially at the Group E would go as we would like to but the goal by Irish player Brady at the 85th minute to the Italy has ended our dreams.

As Turkish National Team has done its job by winning 2:0 against Czech Republic at the last game yesterday, the motivation of the team and supporters has been risen hoping that we would be lucky to go through as we were to get to the tournament in first place. In fact, the chances to get to the last 16 could have happened even earlier with Portugal game against Hungary, as Hungary has led the score three times and in fact Bursaspor player Dzudzsak has scored twice and it would been ironic if he could make sure that Turkey gets to last 16. Even through the next two games was looking to be hopeful, fact that Italy was playing with 2nd squad did make case more harder. Most dramatic thing that when Belgium did score at its game and Turkish supporters around world has celebrated, Ireland has scored straight away in the game against Italy.

However, it does need to be stated that Turkey has put this mess into themselves and each 16 teams at the tournament has deserved to be there. And once again neither do Hungary- as it shown with antifootball at the last minutes of games, Italy and with Belgium who had it own aims does not care about Turkey getting to next stage or not, and not single national team would care.

Once again Turkey has shown great reaction when its most needed.

Turkish National Team has shown right reaction to the game which it needed to win with at least 2 goals against Czech Republic and as always has shown right reaction when it was needed. The team has been for long time known to start poorly at the campaigns and then give much needed reaction when it was most needed.

The chances against Czech Republic even through were optimistic prior to the game very not optimistic prior to game in the Turkish media, there were some uncertainty due of previous games against Croatia and Spain. However, with strong performance by whole team with especially performance by Burak Yilmaz and Emre Mor has brought much needed win which it was seeking for against Czech Republic. The fact that Czechs needed to win and also due of slow pace football which this team plays has led them some difficulty which was turned into advantage to Turkish National Team which is at its good day, which it was yesterday, was playing faster football and had control of the game. Turkish National Team did deserve this win but unfortunately it didnt get chance to build on this with Brady goal today to Italy..

Turkish National Team players and mainly head coach Fatih Terim has made their critics quiet towards all criticisms and bad words it recieved from media and supporters. However, its does not mean Turkey doesnt have some issues at football and their needed to be focussed at near future.

Galatasaray transfer Serdar Aziz for 4 years.

Galatasaray becomes first big team in Turkey to make transfer by transferring Bursaspor player Serdar Aziz for 4 years. Serdar Aziz was among players which was most wanted by clubs around Turkey this summer but he has chosen Galatasaray.

It is known that Besiktas had strong negotiations with Serdar Aziz beforehand and he was among players who would provide strength to Besiktas, but with the issues at Galatasaray right now its needs to be stated that Aziz was to some extend more needed to them then to any other teams. Surely the old relationship between Galatasaray and its ex-player and head coach Hamza Hamzaoglu, currently Bursaspor head coach, has played an important role at the negotiations and also obvious want for Serdar Aziz to carry on his career at the big team. Serdar Aziz during past years has been among best players at the Bursaspor with being also selected to the Turkish National Team several times and didnt attend to Euro2016 only for recieving injury.

It was also important to purchase such an important player before the start of the pre-season training sessions and Serdar Aziz will have lots of time to get used to his new team.

What happened in Turkish football today? 21.06.2016

Turkish National Team has once again shown its best football when most needed.

Turkish National Team has left its best football for the last game of the group stage in the game against Czech Republic where it had provided top football which surely has reminded everyone of the performance back on Euro2016. Prior to have any strong chances to get to the last 16 it needed to score at least 2 goals and it did achieve that.

The only thing which in hand of the Turkish national team prior to this game is to secure one place which was above Albania at the best 4 places at the 3rd place rankings and by winning with 2:0 it has achieved that. Turkish National Team was controlling game from start to the end and had great motivation with every player giving their best during the game. It was important for the Burak Yilmaz to find early goal at the 10th minute as it has given into stressful situation to the Czech Republic and it was observed during the game as it needed to find two goals. To some extend, Czech Republic didnt provide great performance at the Euros and was lucky in the game against Croatia. The poor performance has provided additional advantage to Turkey which did play best football by far at the tournament.

Right now Turkey will be awaiting for other results from Group E and F, where one result can make sure that Turkey would stay at the tournament. There starts nervous 24 hours of wait, which retrospectively was fault of Turkey but from today's performance it deserves to be at the last 16.

Meanwhile, Czech Republic didnt control game in the way it wanted and today's poor performance of them was great help for Turkey which as stated was flawless today.

Turkey now needs to wait results from last two groups. 

Right now the things are going to the results which would be coming out from Group E and Group F of the Euro2016 during next 24 hours which would decide who would get to last 16 stage or not and its chances does seem to be high right now.

The cases which would be mentioned below should be realised at least at the one group, hence if one of the groups doesnt follow those guidelines Turkey still qualifies. During the games of the Group E, Italy needs to beat Ireland while Belgium wins Sweden in which cases both teams stay with 1 points and stay below 3 point target. In same time Hungary needs to win Portugal to keep them with also 2 points at the Group F. At least one of this scenarios needs to become true.

PSG player Gregory van del Wiel has arrived to Istanbul to have one-on-one negotiations with Fenerbahce administrators regarding of his transfer to the team and has looked around the city to make his decision final before deciding if he want to sign contract with the club.

Van del Wiel has arrived to Istanbul with his girlfriend Rose Beltram where Fenerbahce has organised tourist visit by showing them around city and having dinner at the famous restaurant in the city at the evening. This has carried on today with one-on-one negotiations with Fenerbahce administrators where according to rumours team has offered 3 year contract to Dutch player. If this transfer does take place it will be first "big star" transfer of this season and would provide lots of strength to the team. Compare to Luis Nani and Robin van Persie, van del Wiel still 28 years old which is good age and has many years to provide top football in the Fenerbahce. Most important think for Fenerbahce is to convince him that team has big aims both in the Turkey and especially in Europe.

Fenerbahce does need to make their transfer budget minumum amount but one star player for this transfer season it can afford as long as its being economical for other transfers. This summer star transfer for Fenerbahce does seem to be Gregory van del Wiel.

What happened in Turkish football today? 20.06.2016

Turkish National Team needs to give all focus to the Czech Republic and possibly make another historical win.

Turkish National Team will be coming out to play an important game against Czech Republic where it would be aiming to get a win with at least 2 goal difference and hope that all other results would go into their hands for the best 4 of the 3rd placed teams.

For the Turkey to have such a difficult task to achieve its need to be said is mainly fault of the Turkish National Team with poor performance against Croatia and Spain which led them with 0 points at the group and -4 average prior to last game of the tournament. As it tends to be always case for Turkish National Team the situation is not related to them but how others perform. Similar case has happened during qualifiers but there it did have better end to the qualifiers and hence did deserve to be at the France this summer. Right now, Turkish National Team needs to forget about previously two games and give direct focus to this game as with this focus it would only get a win with ignoring all of the issues within the team.

Turkish National Team has a chance to write once again history if it gets to last 16 but it is a difficult task to and would need lots of luck during tomorrow's game. Its just need to provide its best performance not only at the tournament but of all time in its history.

Czech Republic just need to win to get to last 16 stage.

Czech Republic meanwhile needs to get a win against Turkey and surely will not provide defensive football against Turkey which could make more interesting as draw is not suitable for both sides.

Czech Republic is much easier and straightforward for the qualyfing to the next stage. It is clear at the ranking of the 3rd placed team that obtaining 4 points should be enough to carry on tournament at the last 16. Czech Republic as the team is in better mood mentally with incredible comeback it has done against Croatia during 2nd week game. Their aware of their task and will focus to the win of the game and hence we would experience game between two sides who need to win. Of course, Turkey risks more if it loses game but Czech Republic 2 points obtained from draw will not be enough. Hence we would see likely an attacking football by Czech Republic which could damage more to Turkey according to performance of the previous games.

For Turkey task is to win with at least 2 goal difference and wait for others, while Czechs just need a win which means psychological advantage over Turkish team prior to game as their have simpler task. The risk would be all to the Turkish team.

Most players were not mentally and physically ready to Euro2016.

It is important meanwhile, to also identify what were reasons for such a bad performance by Turkish National Team and even through in time of writing it still has chance to get to the last 16 there are some important issues which needs to be identified.

One of the is the fact that main player of the national team Arda Turan didnt hardly play during past season due of half-season ban and also not achieving much gametime in Barcelona during 2nd half of the season. Caner Erkin, Gokhan Gonul transfer uncertainty has also affected to  their performance negatively. Usually all those issues doesnt bring much problem when team as overall performs well but when things dont go well those factors tend to affect more especially mentally which transforms to performance wise. Number of the players due of transfers uncertainty, lack of time at teams and personal reasons didnt come at the perfect conditions factor which was mentioned also by Turkish National Team head coach Fatih Terim.

The team mentally and physically seemed not to be entirely ready to Euro2016 and this could be identified as one of the main reasons of this poor performance.

Turkish National Team behind scenes events only does damage to them.

There are strong rumours going around Turkish media that there is huge misunderstanding inside the team including needless big bonuses giving for the participation at the Euro2016 and unfair seperation of those bonuses between players.

There are apparently huge chaos going inside the team which had direct impact into the performances of the national team at the tournament. Rumours that Turkish National Team Fatih Terim will be appointed as Galatasaray head coach after Euro2016 is also does mainly damage to the team and in fact could be argued that is not good behaviour by Galatasaray to insist into coach who currently has much bigger priorities. Situation of the Arda Turan and rumours that he would end his national team career also going around and puts into the question of his future particapation. This kind of developments and incredible chaos at the team surely does incredible harm including messages send about Fatih Terim daughter Buse Terim.

All of those chaoses only does an incredible damage to the team and it is questionable in what kind of mindset players would play against Czech Republic during incredible important game on 21st June.

Arda Turan needs to keep fans quiet by goals against Czech Republic, not pictures.

Turkish National Team and Barcelona player Arda Turan is surely going through difficult days at the Euro2016 with reaction was given by the team supporters during Euro2016 2nd week game against Spain. This behaviour of fans only provided worser case to Arda as game continued.

As been mentioned above, all this chaos and misunderstanding at the team and behaviour by fans towards Arda Turan could lead him to end his national team career after Euro2016. The fans as been mentioned before are especially angry into lack of performance of the team and fighting spirit and putting main blame into the captain and biggest star of the team Arda Turan. Arda Turan has provided an answer with the picture post at the Instagram account but would been better if he also provides and makes fans quiet by scoring goal/s to Czech Republic and possibly lead them to last 16 in the moment least expected by whole Europe. But it is unlikely that with this set mind it would achieve that.

Only way right now to respond to all this criticisim is to get win against Czech Republic or protests would also be present at that game and even more after the game.

Twits aimed at Buse Terim are just beyond understanding.

Until now this blog, since game against Spain, has given credit to unhappy fans with their protests towards national team players even through it does not defend them. However, there is red line which should not be crossed regardless how angry fans are but unfortunately it was passed in very hurtful ways.

After the game number of Twitter users has send messages aimed towards Turkish National Team head coach Fatih Terim daughter Buse Terim. What happened in Turkish football today? 18.06.2016

Turkey didnt give any effort for this tournament.

As been stated at the yesterday blog, reason why Turkish National Team has recieved such a negative reaction by fans and this blog stating thats its worst team at the tournament is for not providing enough effort to the game. Players didnt show any reaction and concentration during both of the games so far at the Euro2016.

Prior to France and Albania game, Albanian player Ansi Agolli has stated at the press conference that if the team is not able to play against big teams than there was no reason for the team to come to the Euro2016 in the first place. And this attitute has been shown by each of the 23 sides at the tournament except by the Turkey. It didnt manage to provide any fighting spirit and has allowed at last two games to control game both to Croatia and Spain yesterday. Spain could have scored much more goals during the game but decided to slow down things after 3rd goal. It was normal for such reaction by fans to give towards players and rather than find excuses everyone involved at the team should do everything to find reasons and solutions to this poor performance and latest until start of the World Cup qualifier of 2018.

Turkey has small chance of getting best third spot by winning Czech Republic on 21st June but it is difficult task since apart of winning game it needs to improve its goal difference which is currently -4.

Turkey can beat Czech Republic if it plays its best football which it failed so far.

Czech Republic is among teams at the Euro2016 which didnt start competition at the high note and was going yesterday for 2nd loss against Croatia, until it has provided incredible come-back as it did turn 2:0 scoreline into the 2:2 draw. The motivation raised after this game is surely bad news to Turkish National Team as it would go to very important game against them on 21st June.

Czech Republic as the team could be among most oldest at the side and is certain that players like Petr Cech are not at same level which their were few years ago. Therefore, it is possible to beat them while playing fast football and not giving them any hopes as game progressed. However, with analysing Czech Republic it needs to be once again stated that most important thing is for Turkish team to improve its football once again as without that success will not come for a team. Czech Republic after great comeback at the game yesterday is now at the high mood and it all depends how Turkey would give reaction during 21st June game.

Turkey must need to win this game if it wants to have any chances to get to the last 16 stage.

Turkey chances to take best 4 place of 3rd place are sadly vague.

This is of course also that it would improve its goal difference as it does look that almost each of the 3rd placed teams would obtain 3-4 points, with maybe only one ending tournament 1-2 points. Therefore, the situation with Czech Republic game to Turkey is complicated.

With current situation Turkish national team doesnt get to last 16 even if it gets 1:0 win against Czech Republic and takes 3 points. With the lack of goals at this tournament it would be most visible to aim for at least 3:0 or even better 4:0 win against and then wait how things would develop with other at other groups last games . The situation of obtaining best 3rd place with 3 points does seem to be issue as after 2nd week games the all of the 3rd place teams has at least 1 point and best solution for Turkey looks like those teams either lose points or play draw the possibility which is unlucky. Right now, Northern Ireland and Slovakia has 3 points each with +1 and 0 average, which means 2 places from top 4 spot is arleady gone. There is however scenarios were thing can change entirely. The chance for Turkey is still existing and possibly change each day from tomorrow however with goal difference of -4 with Turkey, it will be smart not to raise hopes too high and not getting dissapointment at the end.

The chances are still there for Turkey but its getting vague and best think to do followers and supporters of the team is to hope for best.
