What happened in Turkish football today? 13/05/2024

Galatasaray has kept 6 point advantage over Fenerbahce prior to derby game against them.

Galatasaray would come out to derby game against Fenerbahce at penultimate week where 1 point would be enough to win title as it did get tough win against Fatih Karagumruk with 3:2 scoreline thanks to last minute goal.

Galatasaray therefore with such win has kept point difference to 6 points during same amount of weeks left in the season against Fenerbahce. It needs to be mentioned that when coming to this particular game, it didnt provide very good performance and did have tough times compare to previous weeks but still has achieved its tasks. With Fatih Karagumruk needed to get at least point and also being to some extend strongest team who is currently at relegation zone, Fatih Karagumruk did provide strong and organised game at the field and did also get ahead. To some extend, quality and calmness from Galatasaray even when it wasnt ahead has played an important role and would now aim for to not lose at least against Fenerbahce.

Galatasaray did have some issues in this game but it did achieve its aim with Berkan Kutlu last minute goal.

Fenerbahce keeps its small chances alive for title.

Following draw against Konyaspor on previous week, Fenerbahce did come out to Kayserispor game at its  own stadium to both show that it would be aiming to fight for title and this has become more clear when Galatasaray has been behind at parallel game.

Fenerbahce did have good start with finding an early goal and also playing against side which doesnt have any aims for rest of the season, it did get ahead with 2:0 scoreline at the end of 1st half and has kept its lower chances for title. Meanwhile, to win title it would need to beat Galatasaray at penultimate week and in last week beat arleady relegated Istanbulspor and wait for Konyaspor to beat Galatasaray. Therefore, to some extend result of this week game between Konyaspor against Samsunspor would have direct impact to them if they beat Galatasaray as also results from other games would lead for Konyaspor to play for game which it would need to win. 

Fenerbahce did keep its vague title chances alive and now it would focus to get win against Galatasaray to both end season with keeping title chances alive and at worse beating potential champions. 

Trabzonspor keeps its advantage for 3rd spot prior to Basaksehirspor game

Trabzonspor as would been expected did get an easy and confident win against already relegated Istanbulspor with 2 goals from Paul Onuachu in first 10 minutes.

Therefore, Trabzonspor has kept 3 point advantage over Basaksehirspor for the race for 3rd spot and it would be playing that team in upcoming week as it would potentially decide who would end season at 3rd spot. This win hence did provide strong confidence and motivation to Trabzonspor prior to such game.

Trabzonspor as been mentioned didnt let Istanbulspor to provide big surprising result and would now aim to build on from its advantage in penultimate week of season.

Galatasaray is only 1 point behind title with derby week coming up next week.

Galatasaray has made very important aim for winning title as it difficult and well-fought win against Fatih Karagumruk which are fighting for staying at the game thanks to the last minute goal from Berkan Kutlu.

Galatasaray it needs to be mentioned didnt start game as it was planning as it did have an issue with getting dominant tempo and chances due of very good defensive game of Fatih Karagumruk. However, with strong motivation for title which it has very big motivation, it has strong pushing force during game and did find crucial equiliser with Dries Mertens at the end of the 1st half which did provide needed confidence which did have a positive impact during 2nd half as it did have good start but after getting ahead of 2:1 it did show reduction of tempo which has led side to concede goal from Marcao. As been noted, this concentration for winning title has provided needed push without doubt in the end of the 1st half with Berkan Kutlu scoring one of the most important goals of this season.

Fatih Karagumruk meanwhile it needs to be stated did provide very good performance at the field with playing for a win with providing good and organised defensive with providing strong attacking game but did miss chance for a draw with conceding goal in the end of 1st half.

Galatasaray hence did get very important win for title at the end of the season as it only needs 1 point in upcoming 2 games which could come against derby game against Fenerbahce in last week of games. 

Fenerbahce keepts its tiny chances for title alive with win against Kayserispor.

Fenerbahce has kept its vague chances for title alive as it got a confident win against Kayserispor from 1st half as Galatasaray getting behind on pararrel game at one point has provided strong confidence to side.

It needs to be mentioned that Fenerbahce did come out to provide some positive game with dominance against Kayserispor to provide an image that it is still believes for title which does get further by each game and also possibility that Galatasaray could be losing points in its own game. Fenerbahce did find an early goal which also provided strong confidence for the rest of the game and to some extend did provide some good views prior to Galatasaray derby game. Therefore, Fenerbahce did get an important win but it needs to be mentioned that to achieve its tasks it needs to carry on showing some positive game as it did today against Galatasaray next week to get its vague chances for title. Hence, Fenerbahce did show strong effective at home ground and did show good performance to its fans who are generally dissapointed.

Kayserispor did come to the game without much aims for rest of the seasons and hence has been expected to show game with relaxing mood and start liking that did help Fenerbahce to get control of the game. It does look like Kayserispor would carry on with similar performance in upcoming 2 games.

Fenerbahce hence did win game which it needed to do to keep its small chances for title and now would be only focussed to get win against Galatasaray next week and hope that Galatasaray would lose to Konyaspor while beating Istanbulspor.

Trabzonspor got expected easy win against Istanbulspor

Trabzonspor did get confident as was expected against Istanbulspor with 3:0 scoreline especially thanks to Onuachu who did found 2 goals on 10 minutes which helped them to provide low and controllable game for rest of 80 minutes.

Trabzonspor which are currently playing for 3rd spot with Basaksehirspor, who it would play against in next week, was expecting to get strong and confident win against Istanbulspor and as been noted it did achieve its aim with finding two early goals with Patrick Onuachu who has been one of the main players during whole this season. This win hence has helped to stay at the task for getting 3rd spot and regardless of opponent would get confidence boost.

Istanbulspor are currently waiting for end of the season as it has been relegated officially from season for some weeks now and would only focus to show some positive performance in last 2 weeks.

Galatasaray could win title if it beats Fatih Karagumruk and results go in their way 

Galatasaray could win its 24th title if it manages to beat Fatih Karagumruk at Ataturk Olympic Stadium and Fenerbahce doesnt consider to win Kayserispor at the game where Galatasaray would come out as strong favourite. 

Among being in the leadership at the standings with 4 point over Fenerbahce, Galatasaray is also providing strong and dominant performance in recent weeks with confident scoreline regardless who are opponents as Galatasaray in recent years is capable at providing top level performance which is needed in the end of the season. Fatih Karagumruk on their part would be aiming to get point and hence could provide performance with a defensive as it aims to stay at the league. In all fairness, win for Galatasaray would be even be even perfect outcome but Fatih Karagumruk would treat game in more realistic manner as it seems to be more realistic and also with such result and getting some points in other 2 games would be enough. With Galatasaray among getting result which it seeks for would also aim to find an early goal to provide pressure to Fenerbahce which would play in parallel. 

Galatasaray hence would be coming out as strong favourites and would perform accordingly as it got real chance to win title in the end of the night.

Fenerbahce would aim to keep its title chances alive against Kayserispor

Fenerbahce has no other choice apart to win Kayserispor at home ground to keep their chances alive and even surprising loss from Galatasaray to Fatih Karagumruk could lead team to chances for title to its own hand.

Following draw against Konyaspor in last week, it has become visible that Fenerbahce has been mentally affected with Galatasaray beating Sivasspor in last week with 6:1 and hence it would be reasonable to state that result against Fatih Karagumruk would have positive impact and in fact if Karagumruk would go suddently ahead at scoreline could provide incredible confidence and motivation for Fenerbahce. If Galatasaray goes ahead it would have negative impact. It would be best for Fenerbahce to forget about Galatasaray game and play for win but its easier said then done. One of the advantage for Fenerbahce that Kayserispor did secure more or less its spot at Super League and hence will not play at game which it needs points urgently.

Fenerbahce would be expected to win game but result which would come during Galatasaray game would naturally have impact to this game without doubt.

Trabzonspor expects to get confident win against relegated Istanbulspor

Trabzonspor would be aiming to secure its 3rd spot as it would be playing against Istanbulspor which arleady been relegated.

With having 3 points advantage over Basaksehirspor with 3 weeks to go until end of the season and also playing with them, it would be playing against Istanbulspor which arleady has been relegated and quite naturally morale has been down for long time now. Besiktas has started slowly negotiations with Sivasspor regarding Rey Minaj.

Besiktas has started transfer negotiations with Sivasspor regarding of Rey Minaj where it has asked for conditions to which Sivasspor has responded with 20 million euro transfer fee with Besiktas aiming to reduce fee and offer 2 players.

It would be expected with very strong performance and taking leading role at Sivasspor during recent weeks, Rey Minaj would be among most demanded players at summer transfer window and Besiktas has been 1st side who has taken some direct action. Quite understandably, Sivasspor has requested transfer fee as high as 20 million euro but Besiktas in return has stated that it could provide in return 2 players in exchange and lower transfer fee.

Trabzonspor has reached to Turkish Cup with confident win against Fatih Karagumruk

Trabzonspor has qualified to Turkish Cup without having too much issues against Fatih Karagumruk as it got through with 7:2 aggregate scoreline and getting confident 4:0 win at Istanbul Ataturk Olympic Stadium.

It needs to be mentioned that it did take time for Trabzonspor to provide strong and dominant game as both sides has been ineffective during 1st half and didnt get single shot at the goal which could be related to the stadium where supporters are located from from field and also some wind issues which is stadium is known for. However, when Paul Onuachu did find an opening goal on 54th minute things did go as planned for Trabzonspor as it started showing dominant game and has scored 3 more goals. With getting into final, it has made an important step for winning Turkish Cup which is being their main priority for weeks now and it would be meeting with Besiktas which has also set its aim for title later in May or start of June.

Trabzonspor is being favourite for now for 3rd spot but as it is known winning Turkish Cup does provide an advantage at Europa League qualifiers so it could be taking this into priority.

Fatih Karagumruk didnt provide much fighting spirit for Turkish Cup final.

Fatih Karagumruk meanwhile did provide pretty poor performance at home ground as it didnt provide any resistance to opponents and has provided in fact much better performance in away game where it ended with 3:2 scoreline.

When comparing of both sides during 1st half of this game, it could be argued that Fatih Karagumruk has been better side but statistically it didnt provide much as it didnt have also signle shot at goal as opponents and hence poor performance of Trabzonspor did make illusion that it showed good performance. As soon as it has conceded, Fatih Karagumruk has been demotivated even more and reduced performance which has been taken less and less after its conceding goal. Fatih Karagumruk did come for win for sure but it didnt show how much it wanted on the field as opponent got an easy win.

Fatih Karagumruk did provide poor performance and would now would focus for last 3 games in the league as it fights for survival but it needs to provide much better game if it wants to stay at Super League.

Kayserispor has recieved 2 transfer period ban for terminating contract without valuable reason.

Kayserispor has once again has recieved transfer ban this time for 2 periods from FIFA, as it terminated contract with any valuable reason with its 4 players during this season.

Kayserispor has been one of the most controversial teams regarding of getting transfer bans and this time it has recieved following complaints from 4 players for getting contracts terminated without strong reason and with FIFA finding themselves to be wrong in following action. Kayserispor has announced that it has send complaint to FIFA regarding for decision asking for decision to be lifted as it did several times beforehand and it would be interesting to see how FIFA would respond right now but there might not have much optimism for this.

 Trabzonspor gets an easy win against Fatih Karagumruk and reaches to Turkish Cup final.

Trabzonspor has got a confident scoreline against Fatih Karagumruk with 4:0 scoreline in Istanbul as it shown dominant game during 2nd half and has risen aggregate scoreline from 2 legs to 7:2 scoreline. 

It needs to be mentioned that game has started at pretty low tempo without many chances in duration of 1st half which could be seen as expected as scoreline has been suitable for Trabzonspor and also Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul does tend to provide this kind of games as it is stadium which is hard to fill apart of Champions League final games due of it location. Coming to game Trabzonspor did start game at very low tempo as Fatih Karagumruk but with Paul Onuachu scoring great goal at 54th minute, it has opened game with Fatih Karagumruk losing concentration of the game and Trabzonspor using openings at defence for its advantage. Hence, Trabzonspor as it is known does give Turkish Cup its priority for long time as it would be shortest track at European football and does provide advantage over 3rd spot. This win would hence provide an important motivation and confidence both for Turkish Cup final and last 3 games of the season.

Fatih Karagumruk did play 2nd leg at home but interestingly it did provide much stronger performance and organised game in Trabzon as it did failed to raise tempo for finding winning goal before conceding and after conceding it has broken even more. Now, Fatih Karagumruk would need to focus for survival race at the league as it would meet league leaders Galatasaray on 12th May.

Trabzonspor hence reaches to Turkish Cup final which it takes as priority for long time and would meet with Besiktas who also takes this tournament into priority during this season.

Besiktas reached to Turkish Cup final with goal from Muci.

Since chances of Super League league title has been dropped to null at Besiktas, team has made it clear several times that its main aim for rest of the season would be to win Turkish Cup and goal from Ernest Muci during 2nd leg against Ankaragucu has made crucial step for this aim to be reached.

It needs to be mentioned that it is hard to state that Besiktas did provide very good performance in this game at home and in fact during whole tie, but the factor that Ankaragucu did have an issue with converting high number of the chances has led for Besiktas to get to the final. It needs to be mentioned that main role for this success has been played both from crucial saves in 2 legs from Mert Gunok and also good performance from defenders. Still, it needs to be stated that Ernest Muci did also raise performance during 2nd half mainly due of tactical changes and subsitutes at half-time. Still, it needs to be mentioned that it would need to improve if teams aims to win final game.

Besiktas hence got into final game of Turkish Cup and is being 90+ minutes away from ending such poor season with title but it would need to improve its performance for that game.

Only thing missing at Ankaragucu has been to score.

Ankaragucu would be seeing themselves to be unlucky in this tie against Besiktas as in all fairness it could be mentioned that side from capital has been more willing in this both legs but did have an issue with converting chances.

Without doubt, with taking account quality differences and capacity of Ankaragucu, only thing which was missing in this tie has been winning goal as that goal could be in fact be enough to get to the next stage. As was seen following game, not getting to final game has been highly dissapointed at Ankaragucu but it would need to get positive from this game and would give them chance to show strong performance in last 3 weeks of the season and look optimistically for upcoming season.

Ankaragucu did provide good performance in this semi-final tie but as team it does need to improve its attacking as it didnt find that crucial goal.

Besiktas has qualified to Turkish Cup final with single goal from Ernest Muci

Besiktas has reached to the Turkish Cup final with single goal from Ernest Muci against Ankaragucu as it has been tough game at the game where both sides has given all to get to the final game.

Following goalless draw in Ankara during 1st leg, it has been expected to be tight game with this game Istanbul giant did have an advantage of playing home and also an aim to save such season and it could be mentioned that this factor and also quality factor between both sides has played a role. Still, it would be tough to state that Besiktas did provide a good performance as it did show some control of the game during 2nd half of the 1st half. However, despite of finding a winning goal with great shot from Ernest Muci. Ankaragucu it needs to be mentioned did create some good chances with crucial saves with Mert Gunok making some crucial saves but it needs to be mentioned that defence did lead lots of chances in its own goal. Ankaragucu it needs to be mentioned did provide good performance as it has been better side during 1st half and also did show some confident attacking performance during 2nd half but it did have an issue with finding that crucial goal as either it didnt choose right decisions or right final touches as it didnt overpass Mert Gunok in many chances. Ankaragucu in all fairness did deserve to be at final when looking at effort but if team doesnt convert their chances, it would be hard to beat team especially like Besiktas.

Besiktas hence did get good opportunity to save its season as it qualified to Turkish Cup where it would be playing either against Trabzonspor and Fatih Karagumruk as it would be seeing that game with full concentration for sure.

Fenerbahce belief for title has been reduced during Konyaspor game.

Fenerbahce did come out for Konyaspor game with must win mentality if it wanted to keep its vague chances for title alive but it did look that players has been psychologically affected from Galatasaray getting result 6:1 on previous day. 

It could be clearly seen that despite of controlling ball for almost whole game and creating some of the goal-scoring opportunities, Fenerbahce wasnt fully motivated and concentrated to the game as that classical fighting spirit at the team has been missing. Without doubt, Fenerbahce did come out to the field with a focus to win and wanted to do so, but factors of title are getting weaker did affect mentally and right now Fenerbahce has things into chances as it still has small chance if it manages to beat Galatasaray and wait for 1 loss from Galatasaray which is being low but still possible chance. For now, team would need to get mentally into believe and prepare for Kayserispor game but its more difficult to achieve than said.

Fenerbahce race could officially end on 12th May as game would be played and result at Galatasaray could even have more impact into pchygology of the players for sure.

Trabzonspor would aim to use its advantage to its own hand against Fatih Karagumruk

Trabzonspor would be aiming to keep its advantage at the Turkish Cup semi-final tie of 3:2 scoreline during 2nd leg game as its opponent are playing for survival at the league.

It needs to be mentioned that Trabzonspor with focussing into ending season at 3rd spot, would also give more priority to Turkish Cup as it provides more advantages for next season Europa League where it would be starting at play-off round. Trabzonspor does provide unstable performance but it would be expected to provide full focus for this game as it is being its main aim in the last weeks of the season. Fatih Karagumruk despite of playing for survival at the league and having Galatasaray game on 12th May would be expected to show strong concentrated game as it did in 1st leg and aim to reduce 1 goal deficit at home.

Trabzonspor are being favourites but as would be expected Fatih Karagumruk would aim to show strong effective performance at the field for 90 minutes.
