What happened in Turkish football today? 04.08.2016

Osmanlispor confidently reaches to the Europa League play-off stage.

Osmanlispor carries on providing very impressive performance at the Europa League qualifiers as it has won away game against Estonian club Kalju with 2:0 scoreline and has qualified to the play-off stage with 3:0 agreggate.

Osmanlispor has managed to reach its target within 30 minutes with 4th minute goal by the Numan Curukcu and 29th minute 2nd goal which has ended its set task by goal of Dzon Delarge. With finding this two goals in start of the game it has made its task much easier and has led Kalju to lose all of its concentration to the game and hence carried on dominating game. There were worries that club might not provide great performance at the away game but it has provided confident game against relatively weaker team. At the play-off stage it would meet stronger team but it will come out with strong confidence that it can bring surprise result.

Kalju also is inexperienced has also come from 2nd qualifying round and hence has recieved lots of experience from this year tournament but it wasnt just strong enough for Osmanlispor, which is obviously good thing for Ankara side.

Now Osmanlispor will wait result from play-off draw and hope that it will be able to provide great result with last barrier before group stage.

Edin Visca has helped Basaksehirspor to get to the Europa League play-off stage.

Despite of difficulty at the game against Croatian side Rijeka and without actually winning both legs during 3rd qualifying round, Basaksehirspor has managed to get to the play-off stage with two goals which been scored in Croatia.

The game has also created a duel between Basaksehirspor player Edin Visca and Rijeka player Bazsak as those both players had been among two players at each side which had made final scoreline. Another interesting note that Basaksehirspor has qualfied to next stage without even winning during 180 minutes. Still taking account how game progressed Basaksehirspor didnt provide its best football and had difficult time against Croatian side which is known to be similar strength as them. Therefore, it is clear that team does need to improve for play-off stage.

Rijeka has provided a good opponent to the Basaksehirspor which allowed them to see their real strength. It did also fight for play-off stage which made game more interested and to some extend its shame for them not to get to next stage. But it is good news for Basaksehirspor and a possibility to have 4 teams at the Europa League this season.

Basaksehirspor as Fenerbahce and Osmanlispor would like to hope for good draw for play-off stage and hope to participate at the tournament group stage first time in history.

Fenerbahce has allowed Monaco to dominate game.

Fenerbahce has once again been eliminated from Champions League after losing to Monaco with 3:1 scoreline during 3rd qualifying round 2nd leg game hence losing the tie with an aggregate of 4:3. With this result it became once clear that for Turkish club to compete at Champions League its needs to win league title.

Dissapointing part was that Monaco did win this tie by being much more superior than Fenerbahce but with Turkish side allowing Monaco to dominate game. The turning point of the game were first 20 minutes, when Fenerbahce didnt manage to do anything and also Germain scoring at the 3rd minute and Falcao converting penalty kick on 18th minute. It can as always be argued that referee decision has affected game but again Fenerbahce didnt play its best football and throwing loss to referee would just turn into habit at pointing fingers rather than itself. Fenerbahce would compete again at the Europa League as it is expected last season taking account it will past play-off stage.

Fenerbahce did provide better football compare to last year games against Shakhtar Donetsk but still it is not strong enough to be at the Champions League. This team does have great potential as it is shown during 1st leg, but there are many areas which need to be improved.
