What happened in Turkish football today? 13.08.2016

Galatasaray wins Super Cup 2016 by beating Besiktas in penalties.

Galatasaray has won first official cup of the 2016-17 season by beating on the penalties one of its main rivals Besiktas with 3:0 penalty score after game ended 0:0 in normal time and 1:1 after extra time. It needs to stated that it was very tough game where both teams has provided its best football which it could taking accout it was so early of the season.

As would been expected from the start of the season, both Besiktas and Galatasaray were not fully ready for the start of the game however Galatasaray did create number of the chances in the beginning of the game. It has started game pretty well  for them controlling some moments of the games and did manage to score 1st goal at the 1st extra time by good header from Hakan Balta. Despite of not being superior team for most of the team it did show lots of improvement from last season and does provide positive view taking account that new players still didnt show its best football until now. It did however show its superiority over penalty kicks which was not shown by Besiktas in return.

Besiktas meanwhile did show that it is missing players such as Mario Gomez who would be great miss for upcoming season. Cenk Tosun and Oguzhan Ozyakup being quality players do miss that last touch effect which most important attackers use as an advantage and hence some big issues at the front. In fact, Besiktas would have problems at scoring high amounts of goals as their did last season due of lack of its attackers. Its needs to say also in their defence that players like Ricardo Quaresma and Adriano didnt play for long period of time in today's game but their didnt provide great performance when their were on the field.

Galatasaray has gained its first cup of the season but still needs to improve especially with newly-signed players need time to get used to team but even with such not top football it shows better picture from last season.

Hooliganism actions has took place prior to Super Cup game.

Prior to the Super Cup game between Besiktas and Galatasaray, everyone at the football industry was underlying of the togetherness and unity of the fans and team members and importance to show this factors following in today's game as it being first official game since attempted failed coup d'etat. However, number of fans at both sides didnt seem to agree with this.

With few hours leaving until start of the crucial game for both sides, Galatasaray fans has thrown stones to the bus which has carried Besiktas supporters to the game and afterwards 4 Galatasaray fans were attacked by knives. This is surely a negative image  which both media and Turkish football didnt  want to show to everyone on such important game. This events does raise question if there is group of people who doesnt want for unity and togherness are starting those fights. Surely, this actions were taken provacative activity but it does raise questions why this has taken place right now and who wins with this actions.

It is also crucial to realise that this has taken place after Club's Union has announced that ban at derby games for away fans has been lifted it does unfortunately show if such decision was a right one with today's hooliganism actions taking place in Super Cup final.

Fenerbahce plan to kick out Pereira looks to be working.

Fenerbahce war between club administrators and head coach Vitor Pereira has taken next step as
Pereira didnt attend to today's training sessions and in interview Pereira gave to Portuguese media he had criticised administrators.

Pereira has stated that Fenerbahce didnt follow contract between both sides and had prevented him to carry on his job successfully and has stated that he couldnt carry on his job with such circumstances.
As been mentioned on our previous blog, there is big chance that Fenerbahce is doing some mopping actions towards Pereira and this statements prove that this could be easily be case. However, Fenerbahce as expected has stated that Pereira has made up this accusations in Portuguese media and he didnt follow contract quidelines by not joining today's training session which provides extra chance to fire Pereira from his post. This inteview and Pereira leaving has certainly allowed Fenerbahce to fire him without following compensation payment.

It does look with high pressure provided to Pereira it has succeeded at firing him without losing much price however Pereira is likely to complain them to FIFA which provide lots of problems to the teams.
