What happened in Turkish football today? 17/01/2020

Trabzonspor showed good game but their are areas which need to be involved.

Trabzonspor has started 2020 calendar year at high note as it managed to get 2:0 win against Denizlispor during Turkish Cup last 16 1st leg game without conceding goal which seemed to be among biggest issue for the team.

It would be too harsh to  state that Trabzonspor did provide perfect game but it has been highly focussed to get this comfortable scoreline in its home ground and with Huseyin Cimsir aiming to provide good start in position which did raise some question, he did manage to provide eye-pleasing performance. Still, in some moments of the game Trabzonspor did lose some control of the game which needs to be worked on and has been seen as among main issues in the team before break. Still, its been seen that players who did play did provide full attention and showed fighting spirit in this team which it needs also to transform to league performance if it wants to get league title this season, which it set as among main its targets for this season.

Trabzonspor did get good scoreline with good game but it does need to improve some areas but Cimsir did show sign that he can solve those issues.

Fenerbahce are favourites but it will not be easy.

Fenerbahce would be restarting its Super League campaign against Gaziantep which side it did get pretty comfortable outcome in 1st half but this time it would be slighly more difficult task for them.

Gaziantep even through still doesnt provide perfect game, it did show lots of improvement when season has been progressed and even through does struggle against big 4 clubs it does provide some good performance with focussing into attack against mediocre side. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce would come out to the game with much better squad compare to Turkish Cup last 16 1st leg game against Kayserispor which would also transform into their performance in this game, so it is being high favourite but as been noted it would not be easy task for them at all. Fenerbahce would need also to provide better performance so it can show it is strong title contender as for many see it just words.

Fenerbahce are favourites but it wont be an easy game for them for sure as Gaziantep would aim to show strong performance.

Damien Comolli resigned as Fenerbahce sports director.

Staying with Fenerbahce, one of the main discussing topics both in club and in Turkish football generally this week has been resignation of Damien Comolli from sports director position for sure.

This decision catalyst has been transfer of Simonne Falette, or more precise, Comolli openning twitter account where he made clear that he didnt want purchase player following high amount of criticism provided to him from fans. This has been without doubt provided some disagreements between him and CEO Ali Koc. Stating that it was known that Koc has been unhappy with Comolli as high amount of transfers didnt provide performances which were expected from him which also means that Comolli didnt do his work well. Stating that, in all fairness, Comolli has been tied as he couldnt do much with financial situation in club and hence had struggle. Right now with this conditions it could be stated that it been good news for both sides for him to resign.

It is reported that Fenerbahce meanwhile would not have sports director this season and interested to appoint Emre Belozoglu after his likely to retire this summer.
